The Loss of the Night app has been designed for readers to measure the level of light pollution in your local area. It does this by asking you to judge the level of visibility of certain stars within the night sky. No experience is necessary in locating the stars the app wants to measure, as it will do all the legwork for you and guide you around the night sky to the chosen star.
There are certain requirements to participate in this action, these being that your phone must have a compass and GPS facility, as well as running the app within a light polluted sky location. Once you’ve registered with the app and uploaded a few details about yourself, the app is ready to go. Find a location, after which the app will ask you questions about the current weather conditions, as well as the level of visibility of the star the app wants you to measure.
Available on the Android and iPhone smartphone networks.
